Onstead Institute Clinical Practice Awards
The Jo Ann (Jody) and Dr. Charles O. Onstead Institute for Education in the Visual
Arts and Design Clinical Practice Awards offer graduate and undergraduate candidates
in Art Education a unique opportunity to gain experience in thoughtful practitioner
research in teaching.
Awardees will undertake reflective classroom practices, including the following.
- Observing, planning, implementing, and analyzing lessons for K-12 audiences.
- Designing thoughtful research questions about teaching and applying findings to their
teaching.
- Collecting and analyzing data on their own experiences and practices as beginning
teachers.
An award amount of $3,000 will be distributed to the recipient during their clinical
practice semester(s).
Deadline: Applications are due May 15, 2027, by 11:59 p.m. for Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 semester clinical teachers.
Eligibility Requirements
- Current registration as a graduate — M.A. Track III — or undergraduate student in
Art Education in the UNT College of Visual Arts and Design.
- A reasonable expectation of completion of all remaining requirements for the M.A.
Track III or B.F.A. degree within the awarded semester(s).
- Preferred candidates will express a strong interest in using research to enhance their
teaching goals as future educators.

Evaluation
A committee of CVAD faculty will review the applications and select recipients.
