The Onstead Institute develops projects and programs that serve the needs of external partners, as well as those of faculty and students within the UNT College of Visual Arts and Design. These offerings seek to draw on the singular resources made available through the college, directing them to as broad an audience as possible.

2044 Series: Anti-racist Praxis as Futurist Art and Design Pedagogy

The 2044 Series: Anti-racist Praxis as Futurist Art and Design Pedagogy is a series of virtual panel discussions that explore the frameworks of anti-racism, critical race theory and futurist praxis as methods of pedagogy in the fields of art and design.

Studio-D

The experimental dimensions of the studio can be extended and intensified by making the studio public. Instead of retreating from the world in order to carry out experiments in transdisciplinary inquiry (as Leonardo did), the Studio-D project encourages the transformation of the everyday, public spaces and digital platforms into experimental studios — studios where amazement, perplexity, and risk-taking can emerge collectively.

Virtual Learning Studio

Video presentations that introduce new artists to break-away mold-making in ceramics, the Fabrication Labs in the Art Building of the UNT College of Visual Arts and Design and lost wax casting methods.

Wandering Wardrobe

The Wandering Wardrobe is a project led by the Onstead Institute for Education in the Visual Arts and Design in collaboration with the Texas Fashion Collection, which are areas within the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. 

Garments available: 1780s Court Coat, 19th-Century Capelet, 1920s Dress, Jeremy Scott Shoes, and a 1960s Paper Dress.
