Chelsea Vanderhyde's workplace; six people on a bench in a casual restaurantThis Self Study(ie) captures the essence of the workplace that I enjoy when studying. I enjoy going to West Oak because I always run into my amazing friends there and we help each other to get through the anxieties of college and work. We are usually there late at night until they close, which is why my friend on the right is holding a mop. I guess I don’t like to be alone, so I feel more comfortable studying in a space where there are people around, especially familiar faces. We like to pick each other’s brains about the subjects we are studying because it helps to gain a fresh perspective on the work we are doing. I get really stressed out when I am isolated from my homework so it is more relaxing for me this way. On the wall behind us, there are images of the music I like to listen to when I study, the food I like to eat, and my sketchbook, which is my favorite way to take visual notes.

I believe this project was important because it helped to focus on the aspects of my everyday life that I might have overlooked as a college student. As college students, we study every day and I believe it is important to document a space that we spend so much of our time.
