In this workshop, teachers used design thinking strategies to sculpt individual and unique objects from clay. The teachers were able to practice manipulating clay using various techniques, creating sculptures based in a design problem of their choosing. Paige Trujillo from Braswell High School and Brian Pierce from Ryan High School, both 3D visual art teachers, helped in leading the workshop. Michael Gibson and Keith Owens, UNT Design professors, helped the teachers integrate design thinking into the making process and consider ways to bring this method into the art classroom.

You’re never too old for games! In this workshop, the teachers used design thinking techniques and found objects to create games appropriate for 4-6 year-old players. The workshop focused on integrating the design thinking process into the visual art TEKS to work collaboratively on a project. When they finished, each group demonstrated how their game was played and discussed their creative choices and design process. This project allowed for creative freedom, utilization of key 21st century skills, and a technique for reusing and re-purposing everyday objects.
