Job Description

The Onstead Institute for Education in the Visual Arts and Design and the Meadows Museum are collaborating to offer a CVAD student a singular fellowship opportunity to gain experience within museum education. The fellow will learn aspects of museum education, which would include the following.

• Work with education staff to create self-guided learning materials for the general public and K-12 audiences
• Develop and implement collections-related art activities one Saturday per month for family audiences
• Assist with select public programs and resources for docents
• Contribute to an evaluation of educational interpretives in the galleries
• Collaborate with undergraduate interns on an exhibition-related project    
• Enjoy informational meetings with museum staff

Funding

This fellowship is generously funded through the Onstead Institute and the Meadows Museum. The fellow will receive an $8,000 academic award as part of the fellowship and to help defray the tuition for six credit hours of internship coursework, in which the intern is required to enroll.

Logistics

Participating students will enroll in six credit hours of ART 5450 - Professional Internship with the CVAD Department of Art Education. The instructor of record at UNT is Laura Evans, associate professor of art education. The six credit hours in ART 5450 can fulfill the internship requirement for the graduate Art Museum Education Certificate.

Fellowship Period

This fellowship consists of 300 hours at the Meadows Museum during the 2021/22 academic year. The fellowship runs from the start of the fall semester of 2021 to the end of the spring semester of 2022. The fellow will be in the Meadows Museum offices a minimum of three days per week or 21 hours per week over the fellowship term, with occasional additional evening and weekend hours. One of the three days per week must include Fridays as a mandatory fellowship day. The fellow will work with their supervisor at the Meadows Museum to determine the exact weekly schedule.

Eligibility

Applicants must be currently enrolled graduate students at the University of North Texas and have completed or be currently enrolled in at least one art museum education course in art education or art history. Preferred candidates will have some experience in museums or as educators.
