Job Description

The Onstead Institute for Education in the Visual Arts and Design and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art are collaborating to offer a CVAD student a singular fellowship opportunity to gain experience within museum education. The fellow will learn aspects of museum education, which would include the following.

• Observing, planning, and implementing community outreach programs for K-12 audiences
• Observing, planning, and implementing K-12 school tours in the galleries
• Executing K-12 teacher workshops&
• Evaluating education programs

Funding

This fellowship is generously funded through the Onstead Institute and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. The fellow will receive an $8,000 academic award as part of the fellowship and to help defray the tuition for six credit hours of internship coursework, in which the intern is required to enroll.

Logistics

Participating students will enroll in six credit hours of ART 5450: Professional Internship with the CVAD Department of Art Education. The instructor of record at UNT is Laura Evans, associate professor of art education. The six credit hours in ART 5450 can fulfill the internship requirement for the graduate Art Museum Education Certificate.

Fellowship Period

This fellowship consists of 10 hours per week at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art for a total of 135 hours onsite at the museum per semester. This fellowship runs from the start of the fall semester of 2021 to the end of the spring semester of 2022. The fellow and their supervisor at the Amon Carter will decide how to distribute the 10 hours over a week.

Eligibility

Applicants must be currently enrolled graduate students at the University of North Texas and have completed or be currently enrolled in at least one art museum education course in the CVAD Department of Art Education. Preferred candidates will have some experience in museums or as educators.
